It’s been a very long while since I last updated this space of mine. Well, today I’m gonna post about owning a pet & having a family as to why I decided to post about this was that I saw an Instagram story of someone giving their pet away as they can’t own it anymore. As for the exact reason of why they decided to give the pet away, I’m not sure. It could be financial reasons and it could be because they got a child & the child is still young, so they can’t give their pet the attention that they used to give. But whatever it is, I felt that it is very unfair for the pet.
You decided to adopt/buy the pet and yet you are the one who decides to give the pet away just because you can’t keep it anymore. Have you ever thought of the pet feelings? I know keeping the pet is also unfair because in the end, you’ll neglect it. If you plan to keep a pet in the beginning, you should also think about the future ahead. Not like now, when you feel that you can‘t keep it anymore then you give it away. If you decide on starting a family, then keep in mind about the pet that is currently with you.
Not all the pets that are being given away are lucky enough to meet a nice, loving owner. I mean you won’t know if the next owner is gonna abuse the pet or not. They can be sending you nice looking photos but you won’t know what’s going on behind the photos. They can buy nice stuffs for the pet but do you think the pet like it? Do you think the pet won’t be thinking about you? Whatever it is, the moment you decide to give up on the pet, it’s already unfair for the pet. You are not a good owner yourself.
Having a child doesn’t mean you can’t keep a pet. There are so many videos out there where the pet can help look after the baby, preventing anything dangerous from happening to the baby. I don’t get it why the older generations people don’t allow pets to be around the baby. Yeah, I know sometimes it can be a dangerous thing, you’re probably not sure if the baby is gonna be allergic to the fur or not. But look at the positive side, having a pet could really help the child to socialise and learn what is wrong & what is correct. The baby can learn about what to do to the pet, what not to do around the pet, how to be nice and not to disturb the pet. The pet can be an extra eye when you’re busy with things. They can alert you when something dangerous is happening.
I feel like having a child is not an excuse to give the pet away. The moment you decided to adopt a pet, it’s a promise to take care of them forever, til death. You have the responsibility to take care of the pet. If you’re planning to adopt a pet, you really have to plan it way ahead and keep in mind that you will wanna build a family of your own. Look at your own finances. When you‘re deciding to adopt a pet, you have to consider a lot of things, your time, your finances, your home environment and stuffs.
I really don’t like it when people give away their pets just because they cannot keep it anymore. Then why did you even buy/adopt a pet in the beginning? Did you not plan your future so far ahead to know that you won’t be able to keep your pet when you have a child? I don’t want to use the word ‘hate’ because it’s a strong word but I’m about to go to that level. LOLOL. But seriously, consider the feeling of the pet. It’s a living thing, it has feelings. Not for you to say give away then just give away. They’re gonna need to deal with it for quite some time. They will need time to open up to the new owner.
I’m not sure if I did make sense in this post but I hope I do. My brain isn’t functioning well enough. But I really do hope whoever who is considering to adopt a pet, can really think & plan better before adopting. Once you adopt it, it‘s for FOREVER.
